Garage Door Springs For Extension

Garage door springs are necessary for the torsion and extension of any residential or commercial garage doors.

The type of garage door springs that you have installed with your door is a surprisingly important decision.  These springs are responsible for actually opening and closing your door, so finding the right type to stand up to the job is important.  Having the wrong type of springs for your door will mean that your opener either won’t be able to lift the weight, or simply will cause your door to break down over time.  That can lead to all manner of problems, and expensive repairs.  For that reason, you’ll always want to do the research into the garage door springs that you need, to operate your door properly.

There are two basic types of garage door springs that you’ll find commonly used in every home, they are torsion and extension springs.  Torsion springs are the heavy duty type, and are only suitable for really big jobs like heavy sectional doors, or very large garage openings.  They weigh anywhere in between 300 to 400lbs, making them extremely difficult do deal with.  But they do offer the power that you need, when you have to lift a heavy door.  When you have doors made from thick heavy materials like steel, or wood, this is the only type that will work for you, so that you can ensure your opener can lift your door every single time.

Otherwise, when you have a lighter, or smaller door, the right garage door springs for you are always going to be extension.  These are much more lightweight, and are perfect for most residential uses.  Whether you have a small door, or one that’s made up from aluminum or a wood alternative that isn’t a hardwood, an extension spring should be able to get the job done.  They can usually handle both sectional, as well as lift doors without a problem.  Plus they are cheaper springs, and are much lighter making them much more easy to deal with.  However, there are precautions that you will want to take no matter which type of garage door springs you choose.

The most important thing to keep in mind, is the fact that garage door springs can be very dangerous.  In fact, you will want to go through a professional installation service if you don’t have the proper amount of experience with this type of hardware.  When garage door springs are handled improperly they can cause all sorts of traumatic injuries, and have even been known to cause death in some cases.  For that reason, you don’t want to take your springs lightly, and you want to give them the proper care and respect that they deserve.  Always rely on a professional when you want to get things done, so that you can guarantee your own personal safety.

You can buy replacement garage door springs at most hardware stores, but you’ll probably want to go through a professional service every time.  They are very heavy, and extremely difficult to deal with, so a garage door company is usually the best way to go.  This way you don’t have to worry about transporting your garage door springs, and you won’t have to deal with installation woes of any kind.
